My name is Jason Pennington and I am 43 years young! I live near Hyde, Cheshire with my lovely wife, three young boys and a baby girl due in February 2014!
I have been in the remedial industry since leaving school in 1987 working for many preservation companies. I trained as a remedial technician throughout my early twenties carrying out work such as Damp Proof Course installation, Dry rot and Wet rot treatments, Beetle infestation treatments, Wall tie stabilisation and Restraint works. Towards the end of the 90′s the demand for Structural Water Proofing Technicians was high and this led to me installing membrane and drainage systems. I then trained as a Remedial Surveyor from around 2001 working alongside some of the national companies such Peter Cox and Timberwise. The national companies are very keen to get their surveyors on the appropriate training courses which I was very happy to attend – the likes of which were CSRT for Damp Proofing and Timber Preservation and CSSW for water proofing basements/cellars.
In 2004 I decided to set up Broadoak Preservation Ltd with my father as he had also spent many years in the remedial industry and we felt that we had a lot to offer with our wealth of experience.
We are now approaching our 10 year anniversary and are looking forward to many more years in business.
I’m Evie, I’m 19 years old and from Carrbrook. I have recently been given the brilliant opportunity to start an apprenticeship with Broadoak Preservation Ltd and on my first days here with the team, I already feel like I fit in and that we do well working together. I hope to stay with Broadoak for the foreseeable future and gain more experience in a busy office environment.
In my spare time I love long walks in the countryside with my dog and like to settle down with a good book every now and then.
I have always been interested in working in an office environment because of my sister who is an accountant. Watching her working away and learning so much about one business made me realise that I would like to do the same and have been waiting for the chance to be welcomed into an established business.
I did 8 weeks work experience which has given me the motivation to continue to look for office work because I enjoyed it so much. I have always used computers and decided early on that I wanted a job that involved using them for most of the day and that’s why I chose to do A-levels in ICT. I hope to show that I can follow the office systems and keep everything running smoothly with minimal observation.
I have been in the industry for 40 years (man and boy) serving my time as a joiner. I have a wealth of experience in the building industry ranging from hanging an internal door to running large contracts as a project manger. I have been self employed working for many main contractors such as Seddon Construction, Casey’s, John Southworths, GF Sharps and many more. I have been working with Broadoak for nearly 10 years now first as a sub contracting joiner, and over the last four years as the Contracts Manger.
Senior Remedial Technician/ Plasterer
I joined Broadoak in 2011 when my brother, Alan, asked me to lend a hand, and I have been here ever since!
I bring 20 years of experience in the remedial industry to the table with a vast experience in Dry Rot and Wet Rot treatments, and the installation of Damp Proof Courses followed on by re-plastering. I have also carried out lots of work for structural engineers and followed their reports to the letter out in the field.
My goal is to become a qualified remedial surveyor under the Broadoak umbrella and move forward in the company.
I have worked on building sites over the last 15 years carrying out general labouring tasks for bricklayers and plasterers. I approached Broadoak in 2010 with a view to learning more about the remedial industry and subsequently became an employee. Broadoak have invested both their time and money in me and I now really enjoy carrying out the daily challenges put in front of me, learning more and more about the industry.
Time Served Joiner
Since I qualified as a joiner I have worked for a range of companies gaining valuable experience in joinery and associated skills. Among these skills are all aspects of joinery including new build projects, property refurbishments, shop fitting, window replacements and loft conversions.
I liaise with customers to ensure that their vision and ideas become a reality. Having worked for myself in the past, I know how important communication is between the client and the main contractor/sub contractor.
I pride myself in being trustworthy, reliable and take a professional attitude to my work. I consider myself to be a team player who works well with other trade persons to achieve the desired finish required by the client and the main contractor (Broadoak).
I have worked for Broadoak Preservation for approximately four years and I am very happy with the company and look forward to many more years with them.
I have been with Broadoak Preservation for approximately five years carrying out ground works for them such as underpinning works, drainage, landscaping and mass excavation works. I have worked in the building industry for around 30 years and worked for companies such as John Southworths, Seddon Construction, Morgan Sindall and Tarmac Construction.
